About the artist
Putu Wirantawan, born in 1972 in Jembrana, Bali.

Trained in Fine Arts, he began his career with figurative painting before gradually dedicating his practice to surrealism and abstraction.

Wirantawan’s work is developed through sustained meditation and spiritual practice, which he considers central to his creative process. His compositions draw on principles of sacred geometry and the philosophical foundations of Balinese Hinduism, exploring the relationship between the macrocosm and the microcosm, as well as the interaction between conscious and subconscious states.

Working primarily with traditional mediums, Wirantawan is known for the extended time devoted to each work, with large multi-panel compositions requiring up to four years of execution. His works are held in museum collections including the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of World Cultures in Frankfurt, Silpakorn University Museum in Bangkok, and the ARMA Museum in Bali.

In December 2024, Wirantawan held his first exhibition in Mexico City at MAIA Contemporary, marking a significant international presentation of his work.
